The Southeast Texas Safety Academy powered by ISTC was created to prevent life-altering injuries and fatalities in high-risk environments.
Designed to enhance overall safety commitment and culture, the Safety Academy delivers instructor-led training built around the 12 Life-Saving Rules, a set of proven principles focused on preventing the most serious incidents in the field. This isn’t theoretical training. It’s practical, relevant, and rooted in the real-world hazards workers face every day.
What sets the program apart is its foundation. The Academy was developed in collaboration with major industry leaders, including Cheniere, ExxonMobil, Indorama, Motiva, TotalEnergies, and Valero. Together, these organizations helped shape a consistent, industry-wide standard ensuring that no matter where work is performed, expectations around safety remain clear and aligned.
The impact is already significant. More than 17,000 workers have been trained through the Safety Academy, helping to strengthen safety performance across the region. But beyond the numbers, it’s the feedback from participants that truly highlights the program’s value.
Attendees consistently describe the training as engaging, practical, and highly informative. One participant noted, “Very informative—especially the Energy Isolation and Bypassing Safety Controls sections,” pointing to the program’s focus on high-risk activities. Others highlight the quality of the learning experience itself, emphasizing the interactive displays and clear, detailed content that supports understanding and encourages questions.
Perhaps most notably, participants appreciate the quality of instruction. “Instructors weren’t robots reading off a script. They knew what they were talking about,” one attendee shared. “Way better than the monotonous online courses.” That human element – experienced instructors delivering meaningful, real-world insight – makes a measurable difference in how the material is received and applied.
Those experiences are reflected in the program’s results: a 5.0-star overall instructor rating and a 4.9-star overall course rating.
